Agro-B Mobility: foliar boron and mobility in the plant

The role of boron in the plant

Boron is an essential nutrient for the formation of cell membranes and the reproductive organs of plants.

Plants readily absorb the boron available in the soil. This nutrient is carried up the plant in the xylem, following the water lost through transpiration.

Conditions that favour boron deficiencies

Boron deficiencies normally appear in sandy soils with low organic matter content, since boron can be lost through leaching in these soils.

Soils with a high retention capacity (soils rich in clay, iron oxides or aluminium) can also suffer from boron deficiency.

Any environmental condition that reduces transpiration, such as drought or high atmospheric humidity, can cause deficiencies to appear in crops.

Boron mobility to the reproductive organs

At this time of year, plants must remobilize the boron that has accumulated in the leaves toward the reproductive organs.

Unfortunately, boron has low mobility in the phloem in many species.

Agro-B Mobility: two technologies to help boron move

Agro-B Mobility contains two technologies that allow boron to move more easily in the plant’s phloem.

The C-plex technology, included in Oligo Prime, and sorbitol are organic molecules that complex boron, preventing this nutrient from being fixed in leaf tissues.

Research results on boron uptake and mobility

Our research has shown that a foliar application of Agro-B Mobility:

  • increased boron concentration in the leaves by 48%;
  • improved the movement of this nutrient toward the lower part of the plant by 36%.

Agro-B Mobility is sodium-free.
