Although this layer is naturally hydrophobic, nutrients can enter the leaf through different pathways, including hydrophilic pores, stomata and certain structures on the leaf surface.<\/p>\n<p>The efficiency of this uptake depends on, among other things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the size of the molecules;<\/li>\n<li>their electrical charge;<\/li>\n<li>their solubility in water;<\/li>\n<li>the age and nutritional status of the leaves;<\/li>\n<li>the mobility of the nutrient within the plant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Small, soluble molecules with a suitable charge are generally easier to absorb. Chelating or complexing certain elements can also help improve their uptake and mobility in plant tissues.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ceb3d4d elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"ceb3d4d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-afee493 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"afee493\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What conditions favour an effective foliar application?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4640a44 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4640a44\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Environmental conditions directly influence how long the solution remains available on the foliage.<\/p>\n<p>According to the literature review, a foliar application should ideally be made:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>in the morning, in the evening or in cloudy weather;<\/li>\n<li>when relative humidity is above 60%;<\/li>\n<li>when the temperature does not exceed about 25&nbsp;\u00b0C;<\/li>\n<li>when winds are light, ideally below 10&nbsp;km\/h;<\/li>\n<li>avoiding very hot, dry or windy conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Evaporation that is too rapid can cause nutrients to crystallize on the leaf surface and limit their uptake. For a foliar fertilizer application, coverage of about 80 droplets per cm\u00b2, with droplets 200 to 300 microns in diameter, is presented as an ideal target.<\/p>\n<p>Adjuvants can also help reduce droplet bounce, improve spreading of the solution, prolong wetness on the foliage or facilitate the penetration of active ingredients. They use small chelating agents and biostimulation technologies designed to support nutrient uptake and mobility as well as the plant\u2019s response to abiotic stress.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/en\/library\/oligo-prime-technology-trial-results\/\">Oligo Prime\u00ae<\/a> technology is based on four complementary components:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>metabolic signals;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/en\/c-plex-technology\/\">C-plex\u00ae<\/a> technology;<\/li>\n<li>fulvic acid;<\/li>\n<li>chitosan.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A greenhouse trial on soybeans in 2021 evaluated the effect of <a href=\"\/en\/c-plex-technology\/\">C-plex<\/a>\u00ae and FulviPro technologies on the uptake and mobility of calcium, manganese and boron. The reported results show higher average concentrations in the treatments with technologies than in those without, particularly for manganese and boron. It allows a targeted intervention at key moments, particularly when the plant is under stress or when soil conditions temporarily limit nutrient uptake.<\/p>\n<p>To maximize its effectiveness, it is essential to consider the crop, its stage of development, environmental conditions, the properties of the formulation and spray quality all at
